First Long Run of 2026!
First Long Run of 2026! 10 Hilly Miles! Not every run is about time and speed. In fact, the weekly long run while training for a marathon shouldn’t be about time or speed at all. Today I set out to tackle the Newton Hills and cover 10 miles of distance on foot. This was my first long run of 2026 and double digit mile run in over a year! While the last few miles were more than challenging, forcing me to walk more than I had hoped, my goals today weren’t about running at all: G

Week two long run of 6 miles complete!
There are many things I enjoy about the journey of training for the Boston Marathon, not least of which is representing a meaningful and personally significant cause. But also very high up on that list are the Saturday morning long runs out on the Boston Marathon course. There is just nothing like the vibe and energy of hundreds of charity runners out there together sharing the road, many who are embarking on their first ever marathon like I did in 2019. I look forward to t

Week 1 - FUNdraising Success!
Friends and supporters, I am so grateful for the outpouring of support received by you as I kicked off this adventure just a little over one week ago. Together, in just 9 short days, we've raised $3,868 - 25% of our $15,000 goal! This is incredible - and has all been made possible by each and every one of you, so thank you! Over this past week, I spent a lot of time making handmade crafts and jewelry in preparation for a series of holiday fairs and markets that I am tabling a

First fundraising day success! $1,768 raised in ONE day!
Friends, I can't express in words how grateful I am for the overwhelming response to my first official day of fundraising. Together, we raised $1,768 in just ONE day!! That's 11% of my goal of $15,000 to help provide vital support and services to children and families affected by trauma. It takes a village to do this work, and I couldn't do any of this without your support. You are all amazing, and my heart is so full! THANK YOUI!

The journey begins...
"Little Melissa" circa 1986 As shared to friends and family on November 11, 2025, announcing the news of this amazing journey to my 3rd Boston Marathon finish line: Most people know me as an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention through my work with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. When I ran the Boston Marathon in 2022 with Team AFSP, I shared my own story — the challenges I’ve faced with mental health, and the truth that healing isn’t something th
